The collection consists of newspaper articles, photographs, letters and documents concerning faculty, staff, and alumnae. These materials include a series of letters discussing plans for the installation of a plaque honoring alumnae in the military service and the American Red Cross. Abstract Charlotte Mansfield enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (W.A.A.C.) in 1942 to pursue work in photograph processing for the military. She was part of the first all-women graduating class from Lowry Field Photo School in Colorado, where she was trained to be a photo technician that developed primarily aerial shots in photography labs. Mansfield was stationed at various locations throughout the United States before being transferred to lab work overseas in England and Germany. This oral history interview transcript relates to Sarah Smith who joined the Women's Army Corps after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Tech Sergeant. She served both in North Africa and Italy. Smith details her experiences during her training in Florida as well as during her service in North Africa and Italy. Smith explains the reception to her enlistment from her family and community as well as the valuable opportunities that her service gave her in seeing more of the world.
