This collection relates to Lyle D. Armstrong and his service in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. The collection contains a veteran’s questionnaire where he shares his experience in service and recalls a memory of being in Manila when the Japanese Envoys came to speak to General MacArthur. He also mentions that he kept in contact with some of the men he met in service. The collection also contains photographs of Armstrong and his three older brothers, who also served in World War II.

This collection relates to Mark C. Bane Jr. who joined the National Guard in May 1941. He later volunteered for the 501st Parachute Battalion and was sent to Montgomery, Alabama to train at the Maxwell Air Force Base. While at Maxwell Air Force Base, he trained British cadets under the Arnold Plan. In late 1945, Bane traveled overseas with General Douglas MacArthur. The collection consists of an oral history transcript.

This collection contains artifacts, papers, and photographs that belonged to Clyde Campbell Beaver from his time serving in the U.S. Army in the Corps of Engineers as a draftsman during World War II in the Pacific Theater.  The artifacts include his draftsman tools, jacket, camera, and Bronze Star.  The papers include official Army documents, newspaper clippings about Clyde, a personal letter to his wife, Adele Beaver, and a telegram.  The photographs include photographs of Clyde in the Philippines, photographs with his wife and mother, and photographs he took himself.

Herman G. Ramsey collection

Collection of letters, telegraphs, and family photographs exchanged between 1st Lieutenant  Herman G. Ramsey and his family in Columbus, Ohio. Twenty-four letters lead up to Ramsey’s death in 1944 while being transported on a Japanese POW ship en route to mainland Japan. Also included is a letter from Dick Clark, a fellow POW who survived the war, offering his condolences to Herman’s family. The collection also contains an album of family photographs along with condolence letters from General Douglas MacArthur and Army Major General James L. Collins.

Scope and Contents This collection relates to Harry Johnston who served as a U.S. Marine Corps Photographer in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The collection includes a "Gossip" newsletter for the Charleston, South Carolina branch of Kroger grocery. The newsletter discusses good sales, jokes, and friends and romantic interests coming in on leave, etc., and contains a few illustrations. Also included are over 20 postcards from Hawaii, none sent or written on, and one mailed postcard that was sent to Johnston when he was in the US Naval Hospital in April 1945 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Thurston Macon transcript

This collection relates to Thurston Macon who served as a Corporal in the United States Army with 799th Military Police Battalion during World War II. Within this interview, Macon describes his basic training at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan, his trip to Australia on the USAT Willard A. Holbrook. He describes his guard detail for General MacArthur in Brisbane, Australia, and Manila, as well as his personal interaction with MacArthur. Macon was also chosen as an honor guard for the Yamashita trial in late 1945.

Thomas H. Moorer transcript

This oral history interview transcript relates to Thomas H. Moorer who attended the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD from 1928 to 1933. In 1935, Moorer completed flight school and was stationed in Hawaii. He was present on December 7, 1941, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Moorer continued to serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II and remained in the U.S. Navy after the war.  In 1964, he had become an Admiral and by 1970, the Chairman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, serving until 1974.

In the interview, Moorer recalls his first impressions of General MacArthur, who had asked him to send a plane to pick up any wounded servicemen in the Dutch East Indies.

Scope and Contents This collection of photographs and ship log documents relates to a U.S. Navy sailor who served in the Pacific Campaign on the U.S.S. Alchiba (AKA-6). The photographs depict Torpedo Squadron 3, Cavite Navy Yard, Philippines before, during, and after the December 10th, 1941 Japanese attack on Cavite Navy Yard. Included are images depicting the change of command ceremony for Admiral Francis W. Rockwell at Cavite Navy Yard on November 5, 1941. One image captures PT-31 and the other PT. This collection relates to Sergeant Tillman Joe Rutledge, who served in the 31st Infantry Regiment of the United States Army in the Far East's Philippine Division. After the fall of Bataan in April 1942, he was captured as a prisoner of war until 1945. This collection consists of one box of personal papers, including the original diary he kept during his internment and photocopies. It also contains an original draft and signed copy of his book My Japanese POW Diary Story; a 36-page oral history transcript; letters to and from his family; newspaper clippings; various government documents; and photographs.

This collection pertains to Corporal Wrightson Ely Clinton Sr., who served in the 116th Field Artillery Battalion of the United States Army National Guard's 31st Infantry Division. He served in the Netherland East Indies and the Philippines from 1944 to 1945 as a clerk of the Battery.

This collection consists of one half-box, primarily containing photographs and artifacts he was issued, collected, or awarded during his service.
