This collection relates to Paul Lionel Edwards Helliwell who served as a captain in the U.S. Army assigned to Military Intelligence, G-2 1616, Office of Strategic Services (OSS), in the Middle Eastern and Far Eastern Theaters (Egypt, Iran, and China) during World War II. The collection contains Helliwell's original diary and a transcribed copy. He records his participation in security at the Tehran conference with impressions of Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Joseph Stalin.

Joseph K. Pettengill collection

Abstract

The Joseph K. Pettengill Collection was donated to Florida State University by Robert Sherman Pettengill in 2005, having discovered his father’s letters after retiring in 1999.  The centerpiece of the Pettengill Collection is a series of letters from Joseph Pettengill, an army clerk with the G-3 Section of the 6th Army Group, Hq Special Troops in the ETO, to his mother and wife throughout his time serving in the United States Army in World War II.

Scope and Contents The collection of Leo and Marie Warren Jennings contains an oral history transcript of an interview provided by the Reichelt Program for Oral History. Leo Jennings served in the British Navy during World War II. His wife, Marie Warren Jennings, served as a British nurse. The collection includes postcards, a program, and two pamphlets (Guides to Services in Alexandria and Cairo). A British newspaper, The Egyptian Mail, and documents regarding Britain and "Operation Dragoon" are included. The Sheldon Nead collection focuses on Nead's service in the Persian Gulf Command from 1944-1945. He was assigned to help transfer supplies from the United States to Russia through Iran.
