Scope and Contents The David Kirby Rare Book Collection contains literature, poetry, chapbooks, and literary magazines from the 19th, 20th, and 21st century. The collection includes first edition, inscribed, and autographed volumes. Authors and poets present in the collection include Janet Burroway, Rudyard Kipling, H.E. Bates, Bin Ramke, and Thomas Hardy, as well as a run of Apalachee Review (originally Apalachee Quarterly) from 1973-1987. The collection also contains letters written to David Kirby from 1967-2016 by authors and poets including Joyce Carol Oates, Leon Edel, and Bruce Jay Friedman. This collection contains books, artifacts, and manuscripts related to the Napoleonic era and the French Revolution.

Scope and Contents Broadside box 1 contains miscellaneous oversized items ranging from 1611 to the mid-1980s. The contents consist of miscellaneous pages of earlier printed works, printed pamphlets and ephemera, reproductions of paintings with an emphasis on the history and landscapes of Florida, as well as a collection of poetry broadsides. The earlier contents consist of three leaves of the 1611 King James Bible, two late 17th century pamphlets, and one page of the London Gazette from 1789. The box also contains a series of watercolor paintings of historic Tallahassee, a representation of North Florida copied from a map, as well as several art prints related to Tallahassee and surrounding areas. The Shaw Collection Brittle Books contains volumes from the John MacKay Shaw Collection of Childhood in Poetry that exhibit advanced preservation issues. The volumes have been disbound and are housed in archival sleeves.

Scope and Contents The set includes examples of early printed leaves, manuscript leaves, as well as a Babylonian clay tablet and cylinder seal, Egyptian papyri, etc. Each leaf is mounted on a black sheet of heavy paper. The leaves have been rehoused from their original black leather, drop-front clamshell cases.
