Monticello Account Books
Scope and Contents
The collection includes forty-nine day-books, or ledgers of daily transactions with customers of the Monticello mercantile store: L. R. Rainey Dry Goods Store between the years 1915 and 1943. Information about each transaction, such as date, name of customer and amount paid or received is recorded. Transactions include a wide array of general merchandise sold and bought by the store. Arrangement is chronological.

Biographical or Historical Information
The day books of the L. R. Rainey Dry Goods Store in Monticello, FL in the early 1900's. As a result of Monticello's agrarian economy, much of the business of the mercantile store involved providing tools, implements, supplies to farms, other agricultural businesses, and buying the goods produced by those same farms. More general goods, such as ladies dresses and housing supplies, were also sold.
