Flora Virginia Pittman collection
Scope and Contents
This collection relates to Flora Virginia Pittman who served as a U.S. Army nurse from 1940 to 1965. The collection includes artwork collected during her time on duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II, specifically 22 prints of Japanese artwork. The collection also includes photographs, postcards, and ephemera from Pittman's time abroad, as well as pins and military certificates. Also included are personal documents and special folders detailing financial information and letters from both the 80th Medical Group and First Replacement Depot.

Biographical or Historical Information
Flora Virginia Pittman was born on November 21, 1914, and served as an army nurse from May 1940 to January 1965. During her career, she served as a Lieutenant, Captain, and Major. She was stationed overseas in Korea, and Europe, as well as Japan. Pittman was also stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas from 1940-1941, San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1941-1943, Batista, Cuba in 1943, and Camp Patrick Henry, VA from 1943-1944. During her time in Korea, she served at the 382nd Station hospital from 1946-1948. She retired from the army in the 1960s and passed away on September 2, 2005.
