Biographical or Historical Information
Aldo Busot was studying law at the University of Havana during the war, from 1942-1947, and provides a very long, in-depth interview describing the Cuban war experience, in particular the support of and close relationship with the United States. He shares personal anecdotes with his interviewer Alejandro Quintana; his brother volunteered with the American Forces in Europe, and when he returned helped found a violent protest group with fellow veteran and activist Emilio Tró. Busot does not remember any rationing and only occasional scarcity of some goods, meat in particular. He shares his opinions of Postwar Cuban politics and ends with his rendition of what happened when Jewish refugees were turned away from Cuba. In comparison to the Perez interview, it can be inferred that Busot came from a different social background, and this colors his interview.
