Gill Family World War II and Vietnam War papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of letters and photographs from two brothers who served in the United States Marine Corps on Guadalcanal and Tulagi, Solomon Islands, in the Pacific War Campaign during World War II from 1942 to 1943. Other letters relate to a relative of the brothers who served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968.

Biographical or Historical Information
The letters from World War II were sent from Raymond and Robert Gill to their first cousins William D. Gill and his wife Maree who lived in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Raymond Gill served with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Campaign as a Platoon Sergeant with the Third Barrage Balloon Squadron on Tulagi, Solomon Islands. Robert (Bob) Gill served in the United States Marine Corps on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, with Battery F, 90mm Group, 14th Defense Battalion. An additional group of letters relates to Donor Maree Gill's son, Specialist 5 William O. Gill III who served in the U.S. Army from 1966 until 1968 and served in Vietnam with the Provisional Nha Trang Signal Battalion as part of USASTRATCOM.
