Governor Andrew's Proclamation
Scope and Contents
A printed proclamation by John A. Andrew, Governor of Massachusetts, Boston, Mass., March 11, 1862, in which he proclaimed "Thursday, the third day of April next, to be observed throughout this Commonwealth, as a day of public HUMILIATION, FASTING, AND PRAYER. The printed proclamation is in the form of a broadside and bears the seal of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The subject is entirely religious, and the quality of paper and appearance of the format would indicate that it was the custom to frame such annual proclamations.
There is an attached notation in the handwriting of Ms. Louise Richardson, FSU Librarian, which reads: "Lot purchase. O. Norwood, Oct. '56" but does not state the amount paid or the number of items comprising the "Lot purchase."
