Francis Eppes Letter
Scope and Contents
This letter was written by Francis Eppes to Reverend John Woart of Swedesboro, New Jersey. The letter, dated July 25, 1838, is an invitation to take charge of St. John's Episcopal Church in Tallahassee, Florida. A transcription of the letter is included with the original MSS.

Biographical or Historical Information
Francis Eppes was the grandson of Thomas Jefferson and a long-time resident of Tallahassee. He came to Florida in the 1820s and served in various positions, including mayor of the city and head of the Seminary West of the Suwannee, which would eventually become the Florida State College for Women and later the Florida State University.
