This collection relates to Lois S. Lee who served in the Women's Army Corps in the Far East Air Forces WAC Detachment in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands during World War II. The collection contains documents, photographs, unit history book, ephemera, and a bomber crew insulated flight suit.

Biographical/Historical Note

Lois S. Lee (married name: Lois L. Frauchinger) was born March 26, 1921 and passed away on March 26th, 2018, on her 97th birthday. A native of Cumberland, MD, Lois trained at the Ursuline Secretarial School then joined the Women's Army Corps where she became a First Lieutenant in tne Quartermaster Corps serving in the Phillippines and New Guinea in WWII. In 1946 she married Fritz Frauchiger in Norman, Oklahoma where she was a student at the University of Oklahoma and Fritz was a professor and a widower with two childrem, Fritz Arnold and Elise. The family then moved to the Washington D.C. area where her daughter Elizabeth Ann was born.

Obituary for Lois L. Frauchiger: Lois L. Frauchiger passed away on March 26th, 2018, her 97th birthday, at the Margaret Z Dozier Hospice House in Tallahassee, FL. A native of Cumberland, MD, Lois trained at the Ursuline Secretarial School then joined the Women's Army Corps where she became a First Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps serving in the Philippines and New Guinea in WWII. In 1946 she married Fritz Frauchiger in Norman, Oklahoma where she was a student at the University of Oklahoma and Fritz was a professor and widower with two children, Fritz Arnold and Elise. The family then moved to the Washington DC area where her daughter Elizabeth Ann was born.

Lois is survived by her three children, Fritz A Frauchiger of Palm Springs, CA, Elise Judelle and husband Jesse of Tallahassee and Ann Mueller and husband Dennis Zadra of Basin, WY; four grandchildren, Tara Judelle and husband Spyros Vlachos of Athens, Greece; Jenny Brake and husband Michael of Altadena, CA; Max Frauchiger of Los Angeles, CA; and Urgyan Mueller of Hong Kong; five great grandchildren; her brother Walter Donald Lee and his wife Katie Lee and their extended family in Maryland and niece and nephews Regula, Peter and Hans Ruedi Bener of Switzerland.

Fritz's career in the U.S. Foreign Service lead to a life in the Washington, DC area as well as Nice, France; Frankfurt, Germany; Beirut, Lebanon and Paris, France. Fritz and Lois retired to Deland, Florida in 1969 where Fritz was a language professor at Stetson University. Lois and Fritz were very early members of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Deland.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Fritz and her grandson Jigme Mueller. A private family remembrance will be held at a later date. Susie Mozolic of Bevis Funeral Home, Tallahassee, is handling arrangements. (850) 385-2193 www.bevisfh.com
