Scope and Contents

This collection relates to Paul Zaccaria and Harry Walters Peters relatives who both served as enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. This collection contains Naval Uniforms from Paul Zaccaria and Harry Walters Peters, as well as Zaccaria's photographs of Nagasaki shortly after the atomic bombs were dropped and Prisoner of War repatriation.

Biographical/Historical Note

Paul "Sam" Zaccaria was born on September 8, 1923 in Baltimore, MD. The son of Italian immigrants, Zaccaria served on the USS Rutilicus AK-113 during WWII, where he had toured Nagasaki towards the end of the war. After the war, Zaccaria lived in Parkville, MD and owned a service station. He passed away on February 23, 2019



Harry Walters Peters was born July 7, 1925. The son of German immigrants, Peters enlisted into the US Navy at the age of 16 and served on the USS Schuykill A.O.76 until the war's end. He passed away on April 8, 1995.
