This collection relates to Technician 5th Grade Charles Wilfong Chalker who served with the 76th Infantry Division in the European Theater during World War II. The collection contains three German World War II period flags brought back after the war from Europe by Chalker.

Biographical / Historical

Charles Wilfong Chalker was born in Florida on April 18, 1913. He received his BA in Journalism from the University of Florida and worked at the Tallahasee Democrat newspaper before entering the U.S. Army on June 29, 1942 at Camp Blanding, FL. Chalker was assigned to the 76th Infantry Division. Chalker remained with the 76th Division during campaigns in the European Theater and discharged in November 1945. He passed away on June 30,1979 in Tallahassee, FL. He is buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Tallahassee, FL.
