This collection relates to George W. Griffith who served with the 201st Infantry Regiment during the Aleutian Islands Campaign during World War II. This collection contains diaries, photographs, and souvenirs from Griffith's time in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Diaries include entries related to the Pearl Harbor attack and the Japanese occupation of the Attu and Kiska Islands.

Biographical / Historical

George W. Griffith was born on November 14, 1916 in Wheeling, West Virginia. As a young adult George W. Griffith worked in Wheeling for the CCC and later became a barber. George W. Griffith would become a barber for the 201st Infantry Regiment. After World War II, George W. Griffith became a mail carrier for Wheeling, WV. George W. Griffith died on January 1, 1955 at the age of 38. Buried in Greenwood Cemetary Wheeling, WV. (U.S. Find A Grave Index)
