This collection relates to Technician Grade 5 Thomas McFarland who served as a medical aide with a field hospital unit during World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters. This collection consists of letters from McFarland to his family about his time stationed in France, Africa, and Okinawa.

This collection is open to all researchers. No Deed of Gift was received from the Donor, Thomas McFarland. McFarland, was the writer and subject of these letters included in the collection.

Biographical / Historical

Thomas McFarland was born on July 1, 1921 in Chevy Chase, MD. He entered the U.S. Army on February 23, 1942 and assigned serial number 13051221. He was married to Lucile McFarland, and had three children. He donated his collection of personal letters he wrote to his family during the War on May 8, 2002. He passed away on February 5, 2004 in Greenville, SC and is buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, SC beside his wife, Lucile.
