Scope and Contents

This collection relates to Major Don Warner from his time i the 874th Airborne Aviation Engineers during World War II where he served as the Executive officer. The collection includes photographs (primarily of Camp Claiborne in Lousianna, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines), newsletters, a small collection of maps, along with various saved booklets and documents primarily from the Pacific Theater.

Biographical / Historical

Don Warner served as the executive officer of the 874th Airborne Aviation Engineers which saw service in New Guinea and the Philippines. Warner himself trained alongside the rest of the unit in Camp Claiborne in Louisiana from early 1942 till late 1943 when they were sent off to Papua New Guinea. There they repaired recently captured air bases as the campaign progressed until they were transferred to the Philippines in 1945, where they engaged in more of the same. After the war, Warner continued to serve, this time out of Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska where he acted as a consultant on air base construction.
