Biographical / Historical

Melvin Brown was born in American Fork, Utah and was drafted into the United States Army on July 15, 1941. He attended basic training at Aberdeen Proving Ground and worked in the Army Ordinance Department teaching welding, heat training, and metal tempering at an Ordnance Specialist School. He served oversees in England as a staff sergeant where he completed paperwork, kept records, and made reports. In early September 1944, he worked at a supply depot in a suburb of Paris. His service ended on November 24, 1945. After his service, he received his teaching credentials in California using the GI Bill to attend the University of California Los Angeles. He received multiple medals for his service including the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal with clasp, and the Victory Medal.
