This collection relates to Richard Lewis who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 in the European Theatre. This collection contains an oral history transcript where Lewis details his missions on a B-24 Bomber and B-17 Bomber during World War II and briefly describes his service in the Korean War.

Biographical / Historical

Born in Arkansas City, Kansas on April 2, 1922, Richard Lewis enlisted in the Army Air Corps on July 18, 1942 where he served as a pilot of both B-24 and B-17 bombers where he flew flew 35 combat missions in the European Theater. Richard Lewis returned to service during the Korean War where he flew transport missions. He passed away at the age of 94 on November 12, 2016.
