Biographical / Historical

Willis Winston was born August 8th, 1922 in Franklin County, North Carolina. Winston served as a gunner in the 1st Marine Division, 7th Regiment, 2nd Battalion in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Winston served from 1940-1946 and participated in combat at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and Peleliu. When he returned to the U.S., Winston served at Parr’s Island. Winston passed away on July 18th, 2016. He is buried at Oak Level Christian Church Cemetery in Youngsville, North Carolina.
