James E. McDaniel collection
Content Description
This collection relates to James E. McDaniel who served as a colonel in the United States Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He served in the 48th Bomb Group at Will Rogers Field and 15th Bomb Squadron Light 1st All American Unit. This collection contains flight notes, french paper money, a war department identification card, immunization papers, pay record, 32 black and white postcards from Italy, a photography book of Cambridge England, and a Paris transit park ticket.

Biographical / Historical
James E. McDaniel was born on July 29th, 1920 in Holyoke, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 48th Bomb Group at Will Rogers Field and 15th Bomb Squadron Light 1st All American Unit of plane and crews. The 15th Bomb Squadron Light 1st began the firstĀ air raids in Nazi territory in Holland and Germany, first mission on July 4, 1942, which began air war in Europe. He also served in Sicily, Corsica, southern France and the Italian mainland. He returned to the United States on the USS Mariposa from Naples, Italy in July 1944. He was honorably discharged September 7th, 1945. Following the war, McDaniel became a technical writer. McDaniel passed away on June 29th, 1988. He is buried at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
