Scope and Contents
This collection relates to Gene Ives who lived with her stepfather at Fort Knox, Kentucky during World War II and later at Fort Stotzenburg in the Philippines. This collection contains an oral history interview transcript and photocopies of two scrapbooks.

Biographical / Historical
Gene Ives was born on June 13, 1923. In 1939, she lived with her stepfather who was in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. When he was stationed in the Philippines, Gene’s family moved to Clark Field, Philippines with him. In 1941, Gene and her sister traveled back to the U.S. on the USAT Grant because the army ordered the evacuation of dependents. They lived in San Antonio with General Walter Crouger. Gene worked in the San Antonio Army Service Forces Depot and earned her pilot’s license. She joined the Civil Air Patrol until the end of World War II. She married Robert Ives and followed him to Korea. When Gene returned to the U.S. she worked as a graphic artist for the National War College and the Institute for Defense Analysis. After retiring in 2001, Gene moved to Florida. She passed away on August 22, 2017 at the age of 94. She is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
