Biographical or Historical Information

Stephen Alex Nemeth was born on February 13, 1925, in New Haven, CT.  He entered service in the U.S. Navy on February 10, 1943.  Nemeth was trained and served as an armed guard aboard the S.S. Surprise, U.S.S. Abel Parker Upshur, U.S.S. Pratt and U.S.A.T. Santa Paula. He was discharged on January 18, 1946.  From 1947 to 1948 Nemeth worked as a Scrape Man for Richardson Batteries, New Brunswick, NJ.  He subsequently re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 15, 1948, and served on the U.S.S. Valcour (AVP-55) and the Atlantic Reserve Fleet in Boston, MA.  He was discharged a second time on April 10, 1952.
