Ladd journal and papers

 Collection — oversize: Box1
Identifier: MSS 0-152

Scope and Contents

The Ladd Journal and papers consist of a journal labeled "Property of Fred Ladd" and contains 217 pages with 587 accounts listed, and the "abstract of title of George W. Ladd of Bangor, Maine, to lands in Wakulla County, Florida, purchased at U.S. Marshal sale." The title includes "Lands in Forbes Purchase" and shows John Beard, noted Registrar of those days, as receiver to settle titles of lands in Forbes Purchases. Also included are "The J. & N. Hamlin Land & Heirs account with Daniel Ladd," and an invoice "Wakulla Camp to D. Ladd" which is undated, and a photocopy of pictures of "Members Secession Convention of Florida 1861," which includes a picture of Daniel Ladd. There is also another journal in the collection. The first five pages are missing, but pages six to 642 are legible. Pages 643 to 658 are missing, and pages 659, 660, 661 and 662 are fairly legible. Since the last page is glued to the original binding, there probably were no additional pages in the journal. It has considerable historical value in that it contains names of old steamers and sloops in operation at the time, and also names of many business individuals and firms in Wakulla County, Florida. Includes MSS 0-153 (journal/account book).
