Biographical or Historical Information

Annie Louise Blackwell was born on May 7, 1919 in Benmore, Mississippi. She attended Twentieth Century Business College, 1937-39, and Tulane University 1948-9; University of Houston, B.A., 1951; graduate study at Johns Hopkins University, 1952-54, Vanderbilt University, 1957-58, and University of Tennessee, 1962-63. From Florida State University, she received an M.A. in 1964 and a Ph.D. in 1966. She served in the U.S. Army Forces, Ninth Air Force, Bombardment Division as a court reporter from 1943-45 and received a Bronze Star Medal.

She had a varied career that included positions of associate professor of English at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), Tallahassee 1966-77; instructor in creative writing at Watkins Institute, 1959-60; Fulbright lecturer in American literature at the University of Sao Paulo, 1972-73. Blackwell contributed many articles and short stories to various literary journals and authored several books. She died in December 1977.

Gift of the author. Blackwell was a graduate student of Florida State University at time of gift. A copy of the book was also given.
