Collection includes original manuscripts of Cheney's work with her edits, book jackets and illustrations from the publications and book galleys. One manuscript is accompanied with a letter from Cheney and a newspaper clipping about her and her family.

Permission for publication is given on behalf of the Florida State University Libraries as the owner of the physical items and is not intended to include or imply permission of the copyright holder, which must also be obtained by the researcher.

Biographical or Historical Information

Cora Cheney was born on December 20, 1916 in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended the Florida State College for Women, and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia in 1938. In 1971, she obtained a master's in education from Antioch College. She married Benjamin Partridge in 1939, but used her maiden name when writing. Cora and Benjamin had four children together. He worked for the U.S. Navy, and the family spent many years traveling to different bases in the U.S. and abroad. After he retired, he, Cora and two of their children traveled around the world by ship and jeep before settling in Vermont.

Ms. Cheney published her first children's book, Skeleton Cave, in 1954. Most of her books have been adventure stories for middle readers and young adults.
