Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised mainly of letters written and received by Barbara S. McCrimmon during the years she was writing the biography of Dr. Richard Garnett, an author, philologist and assistant keeper of Printed Books in the British Museum.

Biographical or Historical Information
Barbara Smith McCrimmon, daughter of Webster R. and Jessie Smith, was born May 3, 1918 in Anoka, Minnesota. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 1939. Several years later, in 1961, McCrimmon would go on to earn her Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Illinois followed by a Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1973.
McCrimmon started her career in 1961 as an Assistant Librarian at the Illinios State Natural History Survey. In 1962 she accepted a position as a Research Associate with the Bureau of Community Planning in Urbana, IL. Then, in 1964, McCrimmon attained her first full-time Librarian position at the Illinoise State Water Survey followed by a two-year stint as Librarian at the Amierican Meteorological Society in Boston. From 1967-1969, McCrimmon was the Editorial Assistant for the Journal of Library History. After recieving her Ph.D., she returned from 1973-1974 to be the Acting Managing Editor of the Journal. Her last position before taking up writing full-time in 1977 was as an Acting Adjunct Professor of Library Science at Florida State University.
