Scope and Contents
This collection relates to Lieutenant Commander Ivan E. Johnson, Jr. who served with U.S. Naval Intelligence in the U.S. Navy during World War II. The collection includes Johnson's U.S. Navy officer's winter jacket and three Special Service Division Army Service Army Service Forces Newsmap large format maps.

Biographical or Historical Information
Ivan (E. Johnson, Jr.) was a native of Denton, Texas, and was born Sept. 23, 1911. He married Inez Stocker on Oct. 24, 1942, in San Marcos. He received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Art from the University of North Texas; a Master of Arts in Art from Columbia University in New York; and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from the Institute of Art at New York University. He also had advanced studies in professional art schools. His experiences included: professor emeritus of art education and constructive design at Florida State University; professor and chairman of the Art Education Department at FSU; oil painting instructor at the Senior Center in Tallahassee from 2000 to 2003; teacher in public and private schools in Texas and New York; instructor at the University of North Texas; guest professor at Columbia University; visiting professor at New York University, the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, the University of Tulsa and more; and lecturer in Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida and more. He served in the Coast Guard and in the Navy during World War II with the rank of lieutenant commander.
