Joseph Freilick completed basic training with the Army's 660th Tank Destroyer Battalion at Camp Hood, TX. He joined the 102nd Infantry Division at St. Pierre Eglise, France, in 1944. He was injured in campaigns in Europe. He was promoted to S/Sgt. early in 1945. He was awarded six medals, including the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB).
