The Mary Bethell Alfriend collection consists of typescript and holographic notes written on blue examination books for Juan Ortiz: Gentleman of Seville, published in 1940 by Chapman and Grimes.

Biographical or Historical Information
Mary Betthell Alfriend was born in Virginia on November 18, 1890. She received both her AB (1930) and MS (1933) from the Florida State College for Women. In 1935, she was appointed to the faculty as an instructor of English. She retired from Florida State University in 1950. She died in January 1973.
