Edward Biedricki II collection
Scope and Contents
The Edward Biedricki II collection contains assembled documents and ephemera from members of the 4th Armored Division, specifically the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion. This includes two books regarding the actions of the 4th Armored Division and the 3rd Army in Europe, official documents from the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion headquarters describing the actions of the unit across the European theater, pages from the McClellan Cycle newspaper that was distributed around Fort McClelland, and personal letters to members of the division after the war. The Edward Biedricki II collection does not represent the experiences of one single soldier of the unit, it instead is made up of documents assembled by the unit's membership after the war and contains references to how the war in Europe and, more specifically, how the 4th Armored Division have been commemorated and remembered both during and after the war in Europe.

Biographical or Historical Information
The 4th Armored Division first saw action in the battle for France, landing on Utah Beach on the Normandy coast on July 11, 1944. The division would cut through central France and into Germany through the Alsace region over the latter half of 1944 before being recalled to relieve the forces defending Bastogne during the German army's winter assault upon Belgium. The 4th Armored played a crucial role in the fight for Germany as they cut a swathe southward through German defenses, nearly reaching the Austrian border before entering Czechoslovakia. After VE Day, the Division spent several months occupying portions of Germany.
