A Long Time Since Morning Manuscript and Galley Proofs

Scope and Contents Original typewritten manuscript and galley proofs of Leon Odell Griffith's A Long Time Since Morning. The typewritten manuscript included handwritten edits, is unbound, and has some documentation from the publisher, Random House. The galley proofs are also unbound with handwritten edits and are stored folded. They are dated March 18, 1954.

Scope and Contents While the Adams Brothers Store Ledger covers only a brief period of the existence of this business (1898-1899), it documents the operations of a late 19th and early 20th Century mercantile store in north Florida. It is significant to researchers studying North Florida's economic history during this period.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of the papers of United States Navy Admiral Richard H. Leigh. They include a 17-volume holograph diary, dating 1917-1944, containing official orders, holograph and typed letters, newspaper clippings, printed programs, maps, pictures, and other related items. Also included is a four volume set of personal papers, and a book which Leigh entitled, Whereas, which consists of newspaper clippings, family pictures, programs, doctor bills, and other materials. Scope and Contents These photocopies of Civil War papers include a letter from Bird B. Wright of Shepherdstown in Jefferson County, Virginia to his wife Amy R. Wright of Quincy Florida in Gadsden County. The letter dated September 21, 1862, informs her that he has been badly wounded while in combat near Sharpsburg, Maryland and gives instructions how to get to the place where he is and tells her that she or his brother should come to see him. Among other things, he tells her that his Captain was killed the same day he was wounded. Also included is a Certificate of Parole, Waldo, Alachua County, Florida, dated May 20, 1865 to J. A. Alexander Farnsley's love letters

Scope and Contents Facsimile reproduction of letters written by Alexander Farnsley of Fernelea to Mary Elizabeth Thurman of Louisville, whom he always addressed as "Dear Bettie." The letters were written between 1856-1860 and reproduced on the occasion of the weddings of two of their great granddaughters, Sally Burrell Farnsley, married at Louisville, July 28, 1962, and Anne Peaslee Farnsley, married at Hamburg, Germany, August 5, 1962. The letters and notes of Alexander Farnsley were handwritten and, although reproduced, are in good condition, but the one letter written by Ms. Thurman to him and signed "Bettie" is only fairly legible. Andres Memoirs: 10 Acres and Freedom

Scope and Contents The memoir tells about the two Andres brothers' family episodes following their answer to an advertisement "Ten acres and freedom" which offered property for sale in Florida, from their arrival in Fort McCoy, Florida, in the fall of 1914 and the years following. An index of persons in the memoirs is included in the collection, along with seven snapshots.

Scope and Contents Typescript draft. This collection consists of the 174 page typescript draft of The Men around Hurley, dating June 22 to July 2, 1931, by Annie Louise Blackwell. Blackwell was a graduate student of Florida State University at time of gift. A copy of the book was also given.

Arthur and Mayce Seymour Collection

Scope and Contents The Arthur and Mayce Seymour Collection, in addition to containing correspondence between them, other family members, and friends, has articles written by the Seymours and many poems by Mayce. A major portion of the collection consists of photographs taken by the Seymours during their trips to India and China in the 1920s. Numerous paintings and sketches made by Mayce during these travels are also included.

Autograph note from Lord Shelburne to Andrew Millar and clipping

Scope and Contents Autograph note from Lord Shelburne to Mr. Andrew Millar, complimenting the "...two setts of Hume's History of England he sent him...", and asking "...to subscribe for a sett of that work of Mr. Adams..." It is signed "Bowood Park, June 21st." Bowood Park is in Calne, Wiltshire, England. The note is probably dated between 1761 and 1784 when he was called Lord Shelburne, and before he became Marquis of Lansdowne.

Also, it would have to be after the Hume publication of the first edition of the History of England in six volumes printed for A. Millar 1754-1762, and before the death of Millar in 1768. There is also a clipping with biographical information about Lord Shelburne.

Autograph Note, Nathaniel Foster

Scope and Contents Handwritten note by Nathaniel Foster with a message written on the verso by Thomas Percy. There are three questions in Latin which constitute an examination given to Thomas Percy in 1756 "previous to the Archbishop's granting" a dispensation to Percy for the dual livings of Easton Mauduit and Wilby. The verso message by Percy is his holograph identification of the examination. The questions are: (1) Quibus potissimum argumentis probatur divina SS. Scripturanim auctoritas? (2) Quid est Ecclesia Catholica? (3) An bona Xnorum sint quoad jus et titulum communia?
