Hazel Louis Bowman collection

Content Description

This collection relates to Hazel Louis Bowman who worked for the Signal Corps and lived in India with the American Red Cross for two years. Bowman's collection contains six full boxes, one oversize box, a phono records box, and two photograph boxes. Four of the boxes include letters written to and from Hazel to her parents, family, neighbors, and friends. The collection also contains an oral history transcript, newsletters and bulletins, American Red Cross publications, her diary, a book written by Bowman, photograph albums, and ephemera.

Scope and Contents This collection relates to the Florida State College for Women (FSCW) during the World War II period. The collection consists of newspaper articles, photographs, letters and documents concerning faculty, staff, and alumnae. These materials include a series of letters discussing plans for the installation of a plaque honoring alumnae in the military service and the American Red Cross. There are a series of index cards of a speech to the Alumnae Association of Pensacola announcing the installation. ) In addition, there is a testimonial from Admiral George D. Francis Montague Wells papers

Scope and Contents

The Francis Montague Wells collection, consisting of seventy-one letters, offers the insight and perspective of an enlisted Private First Class with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in the European campaign during World War II.  The collection also contains two photographs of Francis Wells and a letter from his daughter Peggy Wells Hughes.

Henry Louis and Mart Hill collection

Scope and Contents Henry Louis Hill served as a captain with the U.S. Army's 97th Infantry, Field Artillery, S-3 Battalion during World War II. This collection contains a veteran's questionnaire from Louis Hill; a one-page faded cartoon of native women on Guadalcanal; and a brief (less than one page) recount of how Hill came upon a Japanese lantern, which is also part of the collection. The collection also contains a black and white photograph of the president of Florida State College for Women (FSCW), Dr. Edward Conradi, buying supposedly the first defense bond issued in Tallahassee, FL, from Miss Mart Pierson (later married to Henry Louis Hill). Janet Wells collection

Scope and Contents The collection of Janet Wells contains an oral history transcript of an interview provided by the Reichelt Program for Oral History, photographs and documents pertaining to her experience serving with the WAVES during World War II. Melvin Magidson transcript

Scope and Contents

This oral history interview transcript pertains to Melvin Magidson, who was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force in February of 1943 and was discharged in October of 1945 with the rank of lieutenant. In the transcript, Magidson mostly recounts various Air Force bases that he trained at throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and the northeast. Magidson never served overseas due to the war in Europe and in the Pacific both ending shortly after the end of his training.
