Addresses delivered by former Florida Circuit Judge Ben C. Willis and an article written by Willis for the Florida Heritage Foundation News and Views. These materials are useful to researchers studying Tallahassee life during the 1930s. According to Lee Willis, these addresses were probably given at the Exchange Club in Tallahassee, which met at the Cherokee Hotel until it closed.

Abstract

Speeches, correspondence, newspaper clippings/newsletters, calendars, and photographs from Dr. Bernard F. Sliger, President of the Florida State University from 1976-1991.

The Bird and Ulmer papers consist of photocopies of correspondence, land deeds, tax papers, political and other speeches, resolutions, and papers pertaining to church, lodges, last will, accounts of executors of estates, reports of estate, division of land, and division of slaves with values assigned. These papers pertain chiefly to the plantations of Bunker Hill, Nacossa, and Freelawn, which flourished before the Civil War. The majority of the papers are dated from the 1850s through the late 1800s, although a handful are from the 1920s.

Scope and Contents The Edward Conradi Papers includes articles and clippings, bills and receipts, class notebooks from Indiana University and Clark University, correspondence, legal papers, lists, manuscripts, memorabilia, minutes of meetings, news clippings, publications by Conradi and others, photographs, reports, speeches and speech notes, rules and regulations, and statistical data documenting Conradi's Florida State College for Women (FSCW) presidency from 1909-1941, including his fight with the Florida Purity League in the late 1920s. The FSU Senior Class Gift Files include articles, correspondence, lists, pamphlets, photographs, and press releases documenting the history of annual and 50th anniversary gifts given by its senior classes. There is much information about the 1994 Senior Class Gift of a clock for the University Center's Tower, the Westcott Brick Project, and the Louise Richardson Memorial Fountain Project, and a reproduction of a panoramic photo, with negatives, of the Class of 1912.

The collection was given by Reubin O'Donovan Askew in 2008. It contains materials related to his time serving in the Florida House of Representatives, Florida State Senate, and as Governor of Florida.  Included in the collection are campaign files, correspondence, newspaper articles, photographs, audiovisual materials, memorabilia, and copies of speeches. Additionally, there are records documenting his 1988 Presidential bid, as well as other materials relating to his life after his service as a Florida public official. Also included in the collection are the personal papers of his wife, Donna Lou Harper Askew.
