Henry Louis and Mart Hill collection

Scope and Contents Henry Louis Hill served as a captain with the U.S. Army's 97th Infantry, Field Artillery, S-3 Battalion during World War II. This collection contains a veteran's questionnaire from Louis Hill; a one-page faded cartoon of native women on Guadalcanal; and a brief (less than one page) recount of how Hill came upon a Japanese lantern, which is also part of the collection. The collection also contains a black and white photograph of the president of Florida State College for Women (FSCW), Dr. Edward Conradi, buying supposedly the first defense bond issued in Tallahassee, FL, from Miss Mart Pierson (later married to Henry Louis Hill). This collection includes memorabilia and photographs from the Florida State College for Women (FSCW) dated 1917 to 1919. Many items are attached to sheets of black construction paper including a Liberty Day Program, a Grade Report for Lois A. Turner, a supper menu from the Leon Hotel, and a FSCW Christmas Vespers church program. The collection also contains many photos including a few that were probably taken at a sea-side excursion and some that portray Lois Turner Burke.

Melvin Magidson transcript

This oral history interview transcript pertains to Melvin Magidson, who was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force in February of 1943 and was discharged in October of 1945 with the rank of lieutenant. In the transcript, Magidson mostly recounts various Air Force bases that he trained at throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and the northeast. Magidson never served overseas due to the war in Europe and in the Pacific both ending shortly after the end of his training.

Marian Emmett Colman Papers
