Content Description

This collection includes miscellaneous materials collected from numerous sources by Michael Amdahl, a Refuse Transfer Center worker who collected and donated found materials over the course of many years. Included in this collection are a variety of graphic materials, letters, documents, magazines, and a book on the 13th Air Force. Also included are photographs depicting war-torn cities, soldier life, sea and air vessels, and scenery from around Europe.

Scope and Contents

The William R. Auld papers include over 800 photographs taken by Major William R. Auld who served with the 31st Photo Reconnaissance Squadron of the Ninth Army Air Force following General George S. Patton throughout the United States, England, France, and Germany.  The William R. Auld papers also include various sketches done by one of his comrades, a promotion notice, and two poems.

Items include three photographs, FSU Artist Series programs, and other assorted documents, publications and ephemera relating to Barbara Boling Anderson's college life at Florida State College for Women and Florida State University, from 1947-1950.

Anne Levine Filardo served as a machinist at Ranger Aircraft and a teacher at Kaiser Swan Island Shipyard - Childcare Center. This collection contains letters, bulletins, pamphlets, newspapers, and photographs. The documents included contain information on nutritional health, the history of the child care center, activities for children during air raids, and consumer information related to war bond budgets and home economics.

Scope and Contents The Florida State University Historical Photograph Collection is a large and diverse array of visual materials ranging from the late-19th to the 21st century. Formats represented include black and white and color photographic prints; 35mm, 120mm, and 4x5 acetate negatives; and other various kinds of small photographic ephemera including postcards, leaflets, and promotional materials. Abstract Charlotte Mansfield enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (W.A.A.C.) in 1942 to pursue work in photograph processing for the military. She was part of the first all-women graduating class from Lowry Field Photo School in Colorado, where she was trained to be a photo technician that developed primarily aerial shots in photography labs. Mansfield was stationed at various locations throughout the United States before being transferred to lab work overseas in England and Germany. This collection relates to John L. McQuigg (Lieutenant Colonel with the US Army Air Force) who served with the 8th Air Force in Photographic Reconnaissance in the European and Mediterranean Theaters and participated in the North African and the Italian Allied Photo Reconnaissance Wing, including surveillance for the Anzio Landing. The collection contains military papers, ephemera, photographs, artifacts, and maps covering John L. McQuigg's communication with his wife and children, surveillance operations during the war, and documents from the Air Force reserves following the war.

This collection centers around a Corporal and Combat Radio Operator in the 310th Bombardment Wing, 528th Bomb Squadron, 380th Bomb Group, in the Southwest Pacific theatre of World War II. It includes handwritten radio messages, commendations, strike reports, a copy of the Filipino Press from May of 1945, and a Japanese newspaper. It also includes twenty-two aerial photographs of the Southeast Pacific, including Saigon, Indochina, Formosa, and Muong Man, Vietnam. It also includes two envelopes without letters, a Christmas card, and a modern day article from CNN.
