Scope and Contents The Brumby Family Papers consist of newspaper clippings, biographies, and a diary related to the Brumby Family as well as information on the Brumby Rocker, a rocking chair produced by the Brumby Chair Company. Captain Hugh Black Papers

Scope and Contents The papers include letters and one diary written during the Civil War (1863-1864) by Black to his wife, Mary Ann Black, from various places in Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia and contain descriptions of army life and of the battlefields. There is also a series of letters and accounts (1901-1913) between Black and a Tallahassee merchant, Julius Diamond, two land deeds (1857-1858) relating to land of the Forbes' Purchases, and a letter to Black from J.B. This collection consists of a diary of G. Frank Hatheway regarding his life and work, as well as examples of poetry, and a funeral announcement for his daughter, Julia. A scrapbook kept by Hatheway (originally MSS 0-138) is also part of the collection. The scrapbook contains a collection of poetry, clippings of historical interest, old prints, and pictures. Gramling Civil War Diary

Scope and Contents The two items in this collection are a copy of a typescript made by Clifton Paisley from the original holograph diary and a biographical sketch of the author of the diary, Wilbur W. Gramling. The original of the diary, which the donor described as being in "small handwriting and some of it is illegible because the ink has badly faded," was found among the belongings of the late Owen Irvin Gramling Sr. of Tallahassee, founder of O. That there was interest in a mining project in the Congo is evidenced by entries in the Journal about the condition in which they found the mine, and a statement that "The living hear (sic) is very costly..." Scope and Contents This collection consists of ten Smith family letters, thirty-three receipted invoices, one bill for tuition, and one diary, all dating between 1782-1864. The letters were chiefly among members of the Smith family and confined to family subjects, but several have educational value in that they represent the thinking of that period, the closeness of family, their religious nature, and in one case a letter by a young lady who moved from Rhode Island to Savannah, Georgia, writes back to her family in Rhode Island and tells of her impressions of the South.
