Kent Mommsen Collection
Materials collected and created by Kent Mommsen in completing his 1970 doctoral dissertation "Career Patterns of Black American Doctorates," including approximately 950 paper questionnaires (each 32 pages, front and back) with responses; one microform reel ("Daniel Thompson PhD: Career Patterns of Negro Teachers"); nine 5" reel to reel audiotapes with 15 lectures; 2 boxes of card indexes of names and addresses of individuals connected with the study; photocopies of index cards citing these inidividuals and their occupations; 2 data tapes (7-1/2" and 10-1/2" in diameter); and an originally bound printout of entire data file.

Land patent - Commonwealth of Virginia
This item is a land patent covering sale of public land in the state of Virginia by the Commonwealth of Virginia to Hugh George of the County of Pittsylvania, Virginia, dated June 23, 1798. The land patent, which was filled out in manuscript, is of rather stiff vellum and bears the seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the signature of Governor James Wood.
Land patent - U.S.A. to Pul-sey, one of the Creek Tribe of Indians
This item is a United States certificate of transfer of public land in "The Tallapoosa Land District Alabama," (1845) to Pul-sey, one of the Creek Tribe of Indians. The transfer of land to Pul-Sey was, "by virtue of a Treaty between the United States and the said Creek Tribe of Indians, made by the 24th day of March 1832." The certificate is dated July 9, 1845. Other names mentioned were: Nat Macon Thornton & Co., Henry Meadows, J. Knox Walker, Secretary of the President, and S. H. Laughlin, Recorder of the General Land Office.

LeRoy Collins Letters
This collection consists of letters from LeRoy Collins to Dr. Daisy Parker. Among the subjects mentioned are Judge Taylor and Parker's campaign assistance. The fifth item in the collection is a copy of a letter to Malcolm Johnson that was enclosed in a 1968 letter to Dr. Parker.

Letter from Joseph Finegan, Captain Commanding the Fernandina Volunteers, to Charles H. Macbeth
Letter sent two days prior to South Carolina's declaration of independence from the Union, offering Florida's assistance in obtaining possession of the forts in Charleston Harbor. A significant document indicating Florida's intent to join South Carolina in what would become the American Civil War (Florida became the third state to secede from the Union on January 10, 1861). Includes transcript.
Letter from Samuel W. Wolcott to his brother, Eben P. Wolcott
Letter from Union soldier Samuel W. Wolcott to his brother, Eben P. Wolcott, a soldier elsewhere, May 26, 1863, sent from St. Augustine during the Civil War. 3 ¼ pages, 4to, St. Augustine. Letter describes conditions in St. Augustine and the possibility of furloughs, as well as Samuel's recent duty as census-taker for the area. Includes transcript.
The Wolcotts were from Litchfield County, Connecticut. Sam Wolcott was a Private in Co. F, 7th CT Vols., and his younger brother Eben was in the 28th CT Vols. Eben died of disease in 1863, and Samuel was killed in action in August 1864.
Letters and Documents Pertaining to Land and Land Grants in the Tallahassee Area
Typed copies of letters and documents originating in Tallahassee, Leon County and Newnansville, Alachua County, Florida, and Paris, France pertain to land grants of General Lafayette and "grant land for the seat of government in the territory of Florida.

Lewis Family Reunion Collection
Collection consists of three items:
1.) Framed photograph of a group of Tallahassee citizens assembled on the porch of Mrs. B. C. Lewis for the Lewis family reunion. Pictured are Hale T. Blocker, George W. Betton, Mrs. Reinette J. Gamble, Mrs. Sarah L. Lewis, Mrs. M. L. Demilly and others.
2.) Housed in an open frame, a handwritten booklet containing a collection of biographies and signatures of Tallahassee citizens, many of whom attended the Lewis family reunion.
3.) Also housed in the same frame with item 2, typed transcript from "The Floridian" 1896, describing the reunion.

Lieutenant Wheelock military application
This item is a manuscript application by T. B. Wheelock, 1st Lieutenant, Dragoons, Black Creek, Clay County, East Florida dated June 4, 1836, to the Hon. Lewis Cap, Secretary of War, Washington, D.C., in which he states that he has heard that a new Regiment of Dragoons is being formed, and "I beg leave to request to be considered a candidate for a captaincy." This application pertains to the Seminole War in Florida. The reverse side is stamped "Steam-Boat" and is post-marked Charleston, S.C., indicating that it was taken on board a river boat and transported to Charleston to connect with regular mail.
