This collection is comprised of materials related to the works of Herbert Spencer Zim. Books covered include Armored animals; Botany; Commercial fishing; Crabs; Golden hamsters; Hoists, cranes and derricks; Israel and the Holy Land; North American Indian arts; Sea stars and their kin; Telephone systems; What's inside of me; What's inside of plants; and Your heart and how it works. The Leon County Commissioners passed a resolution in 1958 to see what could be done to restore historic homes and buildings in Tallahassee, Florida. Governor Millard Caldwell served as Chairman of the Historic Homes Preservation Committee.

The collection's two major groupings of papers are Antebellum and Civil War newspapers in OS Box 1 and Gilded Age, Progressive, and 20th century newspapers in OS Box 2. The majority of the papers are from the southern states in the United States. OS Box 3 is photostat copies of its contents.

Scope and Contents The Mount Vernon Plantation (the name was later changed to Pickney Hills) was located in Jefferson County about seven miles east of Monticello, Florida with a view overlooking "Razor Lake," so named by Mr. Hollingsworth because of its shape. The number of slaves listed, the livestock listed, records of sales of farm products, purchases of supplies, and descriptions of different parcels of land shown in the Last Will of John Hollingsworth indicate that Mount Vernon Plantation covered rather extensive acreage. Scope and Contents This collection consists of a letter by Isaac Backus and its transcription, as well as a description of the letter and books from Kenneth Nebenzahl, a book vendor. The letter discusses Samuel Alden and Robert Washburn in their dealings with the Church of Christ in Bridgewater and Middleborough. On November 8, 1751, the two men refused to receive and restore a pastor of the church because he could not practice infant Baptism, and they had a difference in judgement about the Bar of Communion. Undated manuscript document in French which is a report by Captain Plapin of Marseille, France, who was captain of a freighter plying between the Isle de France and India, in which he gives considerable details of an incident which occurred while on a voyage.

Scope and Contents Leatherbound notebook containing the manuscript diary and cash accounts ledger of an unnamed itinerant Baptist minister, active in the American Southeast. Diary entries describe visits to locations in Florida, including Crawfordville, Flat Creek, Sopchoppy, and Tallahassee; and in Alabama, including Decatur and Gadsen. Official activities described include delivering sermons on scripture and Biblical figures; officiating wedding ceremonies; and conducting Sunday school classes. Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of materials by and about the Virginia author, James Branch Cabell. The first item in the collection is a set of original typed (with one set of copies) letters by Cabell to Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1940-1953). The copies were typed from original letters in the University of Florida Special Collections. The second item in the collection is a typed copy of a cumulative index to the Storisende Edition of Cabell's works (McBride, NY, 1930, 18v). The index was prepared by John M. This collection contains two letters by James Gould Cozzens to Mr. Emmett B. Peter, Jr., concerning criticisms of some of his writing, as well as a copy of one letter, undated, by Mr. Emmett B. Peter, Jr., to Cozzens, and a "draft of article of which Cozzens reffered in his letter. Not yet published (4/2/63)." The two letters written by Cozzens to Mr. Emmett B. Peter, Jr., should be most helpful to any person writing for the public.
