Historic Homes Preservation Committee of Leon County Records

Hollingsworth Papers

Scope and Contents The Mount Vernon Plantation (the name was later changed to Pickney Hills) was located in Jefferson County about seven miles east of Monticello, Florida with a view overlooking "Razor Lake," so named by Mr. Hollingsworth because of its shape. The number of slaves listed, the livestock listed, records of sales of farm products, purchases of supplies, and descriptions of different parcels of land shown in the Last Will of John Hollingsworth indicate that Mount Vernon Plantation covered rather extensive acreage. Isaac Backus Letter

Scope and Contents This collection consists of a letter by Isaac Backus and its transcription, as well as a description of the letter and books from Kenneth Nebenzahl, a book vendor. The letter discusses Samuel Alden and Robert Washburn in their dealings with the Church of Christ in Bridgewater and Middleborough. On November 8, 1751, the two men refused to receive and restore a pastor of the church because he could not practice infant Baptism, and they had a difference in judgement about the Bar of Communion. Scope and Contents Leatherbound notebook containing the manuscript diary and cash accounts ledger of an unnamed itinerant Baptist minister, active in the American Southeast. Diary entries describe visits to locations in Florida, including Crawfordville, Flat Creek, Sopchoppy, and Tallahassee; and in Alabama, including Decatur and Gadsen. James Branch Cabell Collection

Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of materials by and about the Virginia author, James Branch Cabell. The first item in the collection is a set of original typed (with one set of copies) letters by Cabell to Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1940-1953). The copies were typed from original letters in the University of Florida Special Collections. The second item in the collection is a typed copy of a cumulative index to the Storisende Edition of Cabell's works (McBride, NY, 1930, 18v). The index was prepared by John M.
