Florida State University General Faculty Records
The collection consists of minutes from General Faculty meetings, recommendations of candidates for graduation, related memoranda, and faculty members' obituaries. The collection will be of interest to those researching issues of broad concern to the University in the time period covered, which includes the transition period of Florida State College for Women to the Florida State University.
Florida State University Libraries Proposed Amendments to Florida State University Constitution
This collection is comprised of documents pertaining to librarian faculty status dating from 1956-1958. The documents contained in the collection include letters between Florida State University (FSU)'s assistant librarian, Florence Bethea and the Constitution Committee's Chairman, Robert Miller, notes and suggestions for proposed amendments to the constitution, and copies of proposed constitutions. There are significant gaps in the collection. The earliest dated document is February 23, 1956 and the remainder covers the last few months in 1958.
Florida State University Southern Business History Center Records
The Florida State University Southern Business History Center Records include, correspondence to and from the center, including memos, form letters, responses, questionnaire, annual reports, photographs and publications; and oral interviews recorded in May and June, 1954 and August 1956 on 1/4 inch audio tape reels. They also include a group of historical records of the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company at Cedar Key, Florida.
Francis Eppes Letter
This letter was written by Francis Eppes to Reverend John Woart of Swedesboro, New Jersey. The letter, dated July 25, 1838, is an invitation to take charge of St. John's Episcopal Church in Tallahassee, Florida. A transcription of the letter is included with the original MSS.

Fred E. Busbey Papers
Papers include official and personal correspondence, speeches and remarks, news clippings, memorabilia, photographs, audiograph discs, maps and background material. Many of the photographs and battle maps in the collection reflect his military activities in World War I. Topics include McCarthyism, the House of Un-American Activities Committee, Alger Hiss, and the Dresden bombing in World War II.
George Harper Papers
The papers of George Harper include articles, catalogs, correspondence, manuscripts, College English Association conference programs, and publications. The majority of the papers, and escpecially the correspondence, cover a large period of time from the 1870s to the late 1960s. The 38 books donated by George Harper with this collection have been cataloged and information about them may be accessed through the Florida State University Libraries online catalog.
George Washington Parkhill Papers
This collection of 39 letters were written by Parkhill to his wife, Elizabeth (Bellamy) Parkhill, from various infantry camps and campsites from September 30, 1861 to June 25, 1862. The letters express his concern for the welfare of his little family, the best location for their safety should the fighting get too close, and his personal feelings toward his wife and babies. He also included his opinions about the war and some information about his company's activities.
Includes MSS 89-12.
Gloria Jahoda Papers
Includes background research, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, newspaper articles, and other publications documenting the personal life and professional career of author and Florida historian Gloria Jahoda. Significant topics include genealogy, ecology, northwest Florida, publishing rights, classical music, WFSU-FM radio programs, the Muscogee Creek Nation, and Jahoda’s book The Road to Samarkand, a biography of English composer Frederick Delius.
Includes materials previously described as MSS 79-2, MSS 80-3, MSS 83-2, MSS 83-2, MSS 84-01, and MSS 2004-007.
Governor Thomas Brown Letter
Guyte P. McCord, Sr. Collection
Items found in this collection include the personal papers of Guyte McCord, consisting of correspondence, records of the Tallahassee Historical Society, newspaper clippings, articles, and papers relating to Judge James B. Whitfield. Also included in the collection are the official programs of the inaugurations of five Florida governors, miscellaneous publications, and typescripts of manuscripts published in issues of "Tallahassee Historical Society Annual."

H. Bradford Civil War Papers
Photostat of a letter by H. Bradford dated March 20, 1864 to "Sister Mary," that was written at Johnsons Island and refers to the battle of Olustee.
The second item is a document dated May 1862 by Lt. F.L. Villepigue, Recruiting Officer, certifying that Jesse T. Bernard "has enlisted in Captain R.H. Gamble's Light Artillery Company for the war, and is ordered to report at camp on the 6th day of May 1862."

Haller Diaries
The Haller Diaries consist of personal entries of both Morris and Verona Haller, who write about their daily activities from 1959 through 1971 in both Ohio and Tallahassee, Florida. The diaries contain some enclosures of letters, poems, clippings, and registers of letters written by the Hallers. Also known as MSS 1-01.
Hardy Bryan Croom Papers
Photocopies of pages from letterbook containing correspondence, mostly from Hardy B. Croom to his brother Bryan Croom. There is also correspondence from Hardy B. Croom to his wife, Frances, to Seth P. Lewis, Thomas Baltrell, Dr. John Torrey, John B. Carrol, Henry Gaskins, and Samuel C. Bellamy. The letters were written from Newboern and Ruston, N.C., New Orleans, La., Baltimore, Md., Philadelphia, Pa., New York, Tallahassee, Fl., Charleston, S.C., and Augusta, Ga.
Historic Homes Preservation Committee of Leon County Records
The Leon County Commissioners passed a resolution in 1958 to see what could be done to restore historic homes and buildings in Tallahassee, Florida. Governor Millard Caldwell served as Chairman of the Historic Homes Preservation Committee.

Joanna Wilson Civil War Collection
Photocopies of Civil War items consisting of a 4-page letter, a sketch of "Concise View of Charleston Harbor, and two envelopes photographed front and back. The letter and sketch are from Jas. V.D. Loregin, Altona, Georgia, to Miss Joanna Wilson, Gainesville, Alabama. The letter, addressed to "Miss Joe," contains several good accounts of battles against the "Federals." each object in the sketch is numbered with a note attached that bears the same numbers thus identifying objects included in the sketch.

Letter from "J. Brown" written at Newcastle, to the Reverend Mr. Percy, August 17, 1769.
John D. Bates, Sr. papers
Holograph letter written by John D. Bates, Sr. in 1863 to his son, John D. Bates, Jr. of Boston, Mass. The letter relates to the capture of the Confederate cruiser FLORIDA. Also discusses briefly France's offer of the Mexican crown to Maximilian. Along with the letter and its envelope, there are two enclosures. One is a holograph letter from Captain William Lull (1863) to John D. Bates, Sr. in regard to his ship. The other is a handwritten sheet of instructions on firing a furnace.
John M. House Civil War Letters
Photostats of Civil War letters by John M. House written from a U.S. Military Prison, Feb. 24, 1865 to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel C. House, Knoxville, Tenn.; John and his brother Samuel were in U.S. Military prisons at different locations (John at Johnsons Island and Samuel at Castle William, Governors Island, New York Harbor): John's letter mentions his brother and other members of the family, but he wrote chiefly about an exchange of prisoners which was taking place at Johnsons Island.
Also in Special Collections are letters by Samuel House to his parents (MSS 1965-142).
John MacKay Shaw Collection
The John MacKay Shaw Collection consists of the Childhood in Poetry Collection and other materials he collected that relate to the six themes that are evident throughout the Collection: bibliography, biography, children, collecting, publishing, and writing. These other materials include articles, audiovisual materials, biographical materials, catalogs, correspondence, literary materials, notes, photographs, programs, and publications documenting his personal, business, and collecting activities.
John Rodman letter regarding Spanish Land Grants
Letter from John Rodman to Joseph Reed Ingersoll on behalf of a Mr. Tibball seeking to place a claim before Congress to obtain indemnification for losses sustained by him, in consequence of his being prevented from cutting timber on land granted to him by the Spanish government, before his grant should be confirmed by the U. S. Government.
Other names mentioned are: Mr. Douglas, the District Attorney; Dr. Peck; Mr. Aken, Land Agent; Mr. Rawls; Judge Story; the Duke of Alagon, the Court of Punnsoritis, and Don Pedro de Vargas.

LeRoy Collins Letters
This collection consists of letters from LeRoy Collins to Dr. Daisy Parker. Among the subjects mentioned are Judge Taylor and Parker's campaign assistance. The fifth item in the collection is a copy of a letter to Malcolm Johnson that was enclosed in a 1968 letter to Dr. Parker.
Major James Lucius Cross Correspondence
17 original, handwritten letters, mostly written by James Lucius Cross, arranged chronologically. Some of the letters have been photocopied. Topics include his military experiences and the death of his young wife. Correspondents include his mother, brother, sister, and Francis Eppes. Seven of the letters are datelined from Tallahassee, where he lived and taught at the West Florida Seminary, including a letter from just after the Civil War (December 1865), where he worked for the United States Government shipping ordnance from Florida to South Carolina.
