Scope and Contents The Florida Railroad Company Papers document the early history of this company during its period of construction from Fernandina to Cedar Key, FL., and includes articles of agreement, articles of copartnership, deeds, and a resolution. Florida voting registrations

These papers contain early Florida county voting registration data for primary and general elections from 1914 to 1962. They were used in connection with a voting study done by Elston Roady and Annie Mary Hartsfield of the Florida State University Institute for Social Research. There are 46 individual county lists of numbers of Florida registered voters and 18 county summary lists of numbers of registered voters.

The receipt is in reference to the hiring of a wagon team and driver to transport goods between forts for the 1st Battalion, 6th Regiment in operation against the Seminole Indians from April 1 to September 1, 1838.

Fort Micanopy - a petition

Petition dated Fort Micanopy, East Florida, April 5, 1840, and addressed to Joel R. Poinsett, Secretary of War, Washington City, D.C. The petition prays that James Child of Alachua County, Florida be appointed as 2nd Lieutenant in a Regiment of the United States Military "now serving in Florida." The petition sets forth Child's qualifications, and bears the signature of Captain William Whistler, Captain B.S.V. Bonneville, Adjutant General, R. C. Gatlin, J. S. Saunders, 2nd Lieutenant, S. B. Gannette, 2nd Lieutenant, and Charles W. Dougwell, Surgeon, United States of America.

Frances Elizabeth Brown Douglass Memoirs

Scope and Contents A bound photocopy of the handwritten memoirs of Frances Elizabeth Brown Douglass, daughter of Governor Thomas Brown of Florida. On the first page appears the following note: "MEMOIRS OF FRANCES ELIZABETH BROWN DOUGLASS These memoirs of Frances Elizabeth Brown Douglass, wife of Samuel James Douglass and daughter of Thomas Brown, were written at the request of her family. Frank Hatheway Papers

This collection consists of a diary of G. Frank Hatheway regarding his life and work, as well as examples of poetry, and a funeral announcement for his daughter, Julia. A scrapbook kept by Hatheway (originally MSS 0-138) is also part of the collection. The scrapbook contains a collection of poetry, clippings of historical interest, old prints, and pictures. The poetry is a mix of poetry Hatheway copied and original compisitions. A page of music in manuscript form, The Indian Maid, may be an original composition as well.

Scope and Contents The General Jean-Jacques-Germain Pelet-Clozeau Papers contain material from the early years of the French Republic in 1793 to Second Empire under Napoleon III in 1858. The greatest area of concentration deals with France during the First Empire under Napoleon. One of the largest segments of this collection includes journals kept during the major campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars. Also included is correspondence from Napoleon to Marshals Berthier and Davout from 1805-1810. General Robert E. Lee papers

This collection consists of a military order of surrender by General Robert E. Lee, and his address to the 10th Army at Appomattox Court House. The manuscript copy of General Lee's orders number 9 to his "Armys" on surrendering in Virginia dated "Hdqrs. A.N.V., 10th Apri. 1865" begins with these comforting statements: "After four years ardous service marked by unsurpassed courage and fortitude...," and contains great praise for "the brave survivors of the many hard fought battles ... who have remained steadfast to the last task ..." These items are copies of original manuscripts. Also includes MSS 0-164.
