This collection contains a letter from Captain William H. Chase of Pensacola, Florida, to Lieutenant A. H. Bowman, an Army Engineer, directing Bowman to make a survey of the Pensacola area to find a shorter navigation route. A partial transcript of the letter is also available.

Abstract

The collection includes correspondence, publications, service records, diaries, memorabilia, articles, research notes, speeches, genealogical information, photographs, and scrapbooks created or collected by Carlton J. Corliss. The majority of the papers are related to railroads, various railway companies that Corliss worked for, and publications about railroads. Topics include the Florida East Coast Railway, the Illinois Central Railroad Company, the Association of American Railroads, Abraham Lincoln, Florida, public relations, and his book, MAIN LINE OF MID-AMERICA. The collection also includes some writings of Robert S. Chilton from his service in the State Department.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of two documents, one a sales contract in Old German, and the other an executory contract in the Danish language. The sales contract is a manuscript document in Old German script on parchment, dated Altona, Germany, November 25, 1782, and signed by the Provisor of the Town Church, Holy Spirit Church. The contract is between the Holy Spirit Church and Mrs. Sophia Hedwig Witt, whereby she purchased the rights to certain burial grounds in the Church Cemetery of Altona, with the right to build a burial vault for up to 46 bodies. This collection contains cinema promotional materials in various formats, including press books, 33 1/3 and 45 records, cassette tapes of radio commercials and video tapes.

Each press book contains advertising material for the promotion of a particular film such as stories about the stars or production of the movie, actual layouts of various sizes, campaign plans, and related information. In size, the press books vary from a single page or sheet to a booklet of a dozen or more pages. Some contain various enclosures such as pictures and additional ad sheets.

The records consist of 33 1/3's and 45's which may contain several radio commercials of various lengths.

The correspondence consists of 50 letters related to various officers and the following subjects: leather for government use, fodder and horses, cotton, food stores, military supplies and transportation, teamsters, mail routes, freight, Lake City, Waldo, Palatka, Gainesville, Brandon, Micanopy, Orange Springs, Archer, Camp Milton, Sanderson, Crystal River, Clay Landing, Tampa, Baldwin, and Silver Springs.

Blount, 1st Lieutenant Company B 26th Georgia Regiment, to Colonel R. H. Chilton, dated January 22, 1864, and consists of a request for leave. E. M. Blount, 26th Georgia Regiment, Camp near Smoketown, dated November 13, 1862, is a request for leave, sending him to McIntosh County, Georgia. The next letter is from H. B.
