Scope and Contents The materials in this collection are related to the life and work of Fenton McArthur Prewitt. There is a fifty-page typescript entitled, "Chronological facts pertaining to the fifty years and after fifty years of the life of Fenton McArthur Prewitt, discussing his life, family genealogy, and career. There are a number of newspapers in the collection from the following cities in Florida: Tavares, Gainesville, Waldo, Starke, Jacksonville, Wauchula, Tampa, and Plant City. Flagler Enterprises Letters

Scope and Contents The two manuscript letters, dated 1893, are by George F. Miles, St. Augustine, Florida to Landford Fleming, Esq., C.M.G., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and refer to matters pertaining to Flagler enterprises. Mr. Miles at that time was general manager and director of the Florida Coast Line Canal and Transportation Company with headquarters at St. Augustine, and Mr. Fleming was a stockholder in the "Boston and Florida Land Company." In his letter of March 21, 1893, Mr. Miles expressed concern about the health of Mr. Fleming, and suggested that the delightful climate in Florida could be beneficial to him. Florida business letterhead collection

Scope and Contents This collection contains a selection of business letters that serve as examples of early business letterheads from various places in Florida. They are quite elaborate and contain pictures, maps and extensive advertising. They are from different towns and cities in Florida and date from 1879-1896. The letters are mostly to W.D. Bloxham and W.D. Barnes, both comptrollers for the state of Florida. Barnes was comptroller from 1881-1890 and Bloxham from 1890-1897. This collection is comprised of documents pertaining to librarian faculty status dating from 1956-1958. The documents contained in the collection include letters between Florida State University (FSU)'s assistant librarian, Florence Bethea and the Constitution Committee's Chairman, Robert Miller, notes and suggestions for proposed amendments to the constitution, and copies of proposed constitutions. There are significant gaps in the collection. The earliest dated document is February 23, 1956 and the remainder covers the last few months in 1958.

Florida voting registrations

These papers contain early Florida county voting registration data for primary and general elections from 1914 to 1962. They were used in connection with a voting study done by Elston Roady and Annie Mary Hartsfield of the Florida State University Institute for Social Research. There are 46 individual county lists of numbers of Florida registered voters and 18 county summary lists of numbers of registered voters.

Fort Micanopy - a petition

Petition dated Fort Micanopy, East Florida, April 5, 1840, and addressed to Joel R. Poinsett, Secretary of War, Washington City, D.C. The petition prays that James Child of Alachua County, Florida be appointed as 2nd Lieutenant in a Regiment of the United States Military "now serving in Florida." The petition sets forth Child's qualifications, and bears the signature of Captain William Whistler, Captain B.S.V. Bonneville, Adjutant General, R. C. Gatlin, J. S. Saunders, 2nd Lieutenant, S. B. Gannette, 2nd Lieutenant, and Charles W. Dougwell, Surgeon, United States of America.

Frances Elizabeth Brown Douglass Memoirs

Scope and Contents A bound photocopy of the handwritten memoirs of Frances Elizabeth Brown Douglass, daughter of Governor Thomas Brown of Florida. On the first page appears the following note: "MEMOIRS OF FRANCES ELIZABETH BROWN DOUGLASS These memoirs of Frances Elizabeth Brown Douglass, wife of Samuel James Douglass and daughter of Thomas Brown, were written at the request of her family.
