Scope and Contents This collection relates to the Florida State College for Women (FSCW) during the World War II period. The collection consists of newspaper articles, photographs, letters and documents concerning faculty, staff, and alumnae. These materials include a series of letters discussing plans for the installation of a plaque honoring alumnae in the military service and the American Red Cross. Abstract

The Center for Participant Education Collection contains the activities files, administrative records, alternative viewpoint publications, broadsides, class catalogs, financial records, guest files, legal files, out-of-state free university catalogs, and photographs of one of the oldest student agencies at Florida State University. These materials document the history and operations of the organization, and the programs it has sponsored for the years 1970-2000.

The collection consists of records of the FSU Art History Department from 1979-1985 and exhibition brochures and information for the Ringling and Appleton museums of art from 1993-2002. Department records include memoranda and reports pertaining to minority recruiting, graduate students and finances, as well as a collection of vita of department professors. There are also two posters that advertise the graduate program in art history, circa 2000.

Scope and Contents This collection is comprised primarily of newspaper clippings and correspondence, and documents the controversy from 1991 through 2005 over FSU's use of Native American names and symbols representing Renegade and Osceola, the Seminoles, and their use in athletic merchandise. There is correspondence between representatives of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the Florida Creek Indian Council with FSU reaffirming support for the Seminole name and Marching Chiefs over the use of the Seminole name, war chant, and "tomahawk chop" as well as letters between university officials about the President Dale Lick's Presidential Study Group on the Use of Seminole Symbolism and Tradition...

The FSU Senior Class Gift Files include articles, correspondence, lists, pamphlets, photographs, and press releases documenting the history of annual and 50th anniversary gifts given by its senior classes. There is much information about the 1994 Senior Class Gift of a clock for the University Center's Tower, the Westcott Brick Project, and the Louise Richardson Memorial Fountain Project, and a reproduction of a panoramic photo, with negatives, of the Class of 1912.

The FSCW/FSU Tarpon Club Collection contains materials documenting the synchronized swimming team's activities and performances. Materials include club documents, photographs, choreography and scripts, newspaper clippings, video, alumni notes, as well as other ephemera documenting the organization's history.

This collection contains Franklin Merle Peterson's personal correspondence, newspapers, ephemera, and photographs from Peterson’s lifetime. Peterson was a veteran of the First World War in France and the Second World War in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Many of the photographs and battle maps in the collection reflect his military activities in World War I. Topics include McCarthyism, the House of Un-American Activities Committee, Alger Hiss, and the Dresden bombing in World War II.

Scope and Contents The Free Tattler was a newsletter documenting the activities among a group of friends at the Florida State College for Women between 1928-29. The group referred to themselves as the "Tattlerettes" and published the newsletter "every two weeks" for "five (5) cents [a] copy." Among the activities described are the group attending church, recitals, and lecture series; having picnics and eating in the dining hall; studying for exams; and visiting with eachother on the weekends. The Herman Kurz Collection contains photocopies of several news clippings from Kurz's scrapbooks and an original and photocopy of the autobiographical sketch he delivered at the Tallahassee Kiwanis Club. These materials are significant in documenting the work of one of the foremost authorities on Florida plant life.

The collection, donated by Jack Crothers to Heritage Protocol, consists primarily of ephemera relating to Florida State sports teams, especially football. The collection includes pennants, a variety of ticket stubs spanning much of the history of Florida State football, and pompons for every ACC team as of 2004. Other items include a jacket acquired from a Seminole Indian reservation and a program for the 1964 commencement ceremony at Florida State University.

Scope and Contents This World War II collection relates to Sgt. James H. Vander Laan, who served in the United States Army Air Force and was assigned to the 511th bomber squadron in the 351st Bombardment Group. During his service, he trained as a ball-turret gunner and radio operator on a B-17 bomber. The collection consists of documents, letters, photographs, and memorabilia.
