Scope and Contents These photocopies of Civil War papers include a letter from Bird B. Wright of Shepherdstown in Jefferson County, Virginia to his wife Amy R. Wright of Quincy Florida in Gadsden County. The letter dated September 21, 1862, informs her that he has been badly wounded while in combat near Sharpsburg, Maryland and gives instructions how to get to the place where he is and tells her that she or his brother should come to see him. Alexander Farnsley's love letters

Scope and Contents Facsimile reproduction of letters written by Alexander Farnsley of Fernelea to Mary Elizabeth Thurman of Louisville, whom he always addressed as "Dear Bettie." The letters were written between 1856-1860 and reproduced on the occasion of the weddings of two of their great granddaughters, Sally Burrell Farnsley, married at Louisville, July 28, 1962, and Anne Peaslee Farnsley, married at Hamburg, Germany, August 5, 1962. The letters and notes of Alexander Farnsley were handwritten and, although reproduced, are in good condition, but the one letter written by Ms. Thurman to him and signed "Bettie" is only fairly legible. Bank of Florida Letter

Scope and Contents

The three page letter, signed by E.G. Booth, secretary to D.S. Kennedy, Esq. of New York, gives a list of drafts drawn on several individuals and then the details of a bill of lading covering 41 bales of cotton, all being sent for discount. The postscript refers to the financial difficulties then existing in Florida banking circles.

Bertram Hylton Davis Letters

This collection contains letters from literary people received when Professor Davis was chairing the English Department Lecture Committee in 1977-1978. Included is the full correspondence with Reed Whittemore. Other correspondents include: Saul Bellow, Frederick Crews, E. L. Doctorow, Tom Stoppard, and Paul Antony Tanner. There are also memos of Bertram Davis and lecture space reservation materials.

Clement Acton Griscom Papers

These papers include a letter from Clement Acton Griscom to his son Lloyd, who served as a foreign diplomat to Japan in the early 1900s. Also included is a small Christmas gift card signed "From Bronson Winthrop," and a small envelope addressed to Col. Lloyd Griscom, care of Miss Griscom, Water Oak Plantation, Tallahassee, Florida. Dallas Wood Civil War Letter

Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of a photostat of Wood's letter in duplicate. The letter is by Dallas Wood, Co. "K," 6th Fla. Vols, Finley's Brigade, dated Dalton, Georgia, December 25, 1863, to "Dear Sister." Dallas Wood's letter to his sister is chiefly a family letter written on Christmas day and deals only slightly with army life and the granting of furloughs. His reference to "the bloody struggle" was doubtless in anticipation of a forthcoming transfer to Virginia and Tennessee where Brig.-General Finley's Florida Infantry saw service during the following two years.

Flagler Enterprises Letters

Scope and Contents The two manuscript letters, dated 1893, are by George F. Miles, St. Augustine, Florida to Landford Fleming, Esq., C.M.G., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and refer to matters pertaining to Flagler enterprises. Mr. Miles at that time was general manager and director of the Florida Coast Line Canal and Transportation Company with headquarters at St. Augustine, and Mr. Fleming was a stockholder in the "Boston and Florida Land Company." In his letter of March 21, 1893, Mr. Miles expressed concern about the health of Mr. Fleming, and suggested that the delightful climate in Florida could be beneficial to him.
