Autograph note from Lord Shelburne to Mr. Andrew Millar, complimenting the "...two setts of Hume's History of England he sent him...", and asking "...to subscribe for a sett of that work of Mr. Adams..." It is signed "Bowood Park, June 21st." Bowood Park is in Calne, Wiltshire, England. The note is probably dated between 1761 and 1784 when he was called Lord Shelburne, and before he became Marquis of Lansdowne.
Also, it would have to be after the Hume publication of the first edition of the History of England in six volumes printed for A. Millar 1754-1762, and before the death of Millar in 1768. There is also a clipping with biographical information about Lord Shelburne.
This collection relates to Frank Louis Lash who served as a Captain pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the 587th squadron, 394th Bomb Group in the 8th Air Force which was based in England. The collection consists of a mechanical navigational watch and a brief manuscript detailing how the watch was acquired.
