Scope and Contents The Edward Biedricki II collection contains assembled documents and ephemera from members of the 4th Armored Division, specifically the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion. This includes two books regarding the actions of the 4th Armored Division and the 3rd Army in Europe, official documents from the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion headquarters describing the actions of the unit across the European theater, pages from the McClellan Cycle newspaper that was distributed around Fort McClelland, and personal letters to members of the division after the war. The Mildred and William H. Finger papers detail Private William H. Finger's experiences as a member of Company E, 160th Infantry Regiment of the 40th Infantry Division in the United States Army during World War II. Finger provides insight into his time during basic training at Fort McClellan in Alabama and his time spent overseas in the Philippines. His wife Mildred wrote back and forth to him about his family and the significance of letter writing while he is away from home. The collection contains letters and documents.

Abstract

The Joseph K. Pettengill Collection was donated to Florida State University by Robert Sherman Pettengill in 2005, having discovered his father’s letters after retiring in 1999.  The centerpiece of the Pettengill Collection is a series of letters from Joseph Pettengill, an army clerk with the G-3 Section of the 6th Army Group, Hq Special Troops in the ETO, to his mother and wife throughout his time serving in the United States Army in World War II.

Scope and Contents This collection is related to Raymond Lucitt. The collection contains booklets: Air Raid Warden Manual, Newark Defense Council, Red Cross First Aid Book, 1941 War Department Soldier's Manual, 1917 Soldier's French Course Book. In addition to Lucitt's Selective Service papers, this collection is of interest to anyone seeking to know what a GI might have carried on a daily basis. 1st Lieutenant John O. Pons' oral history transcript details his experience as a military policeman at the Nuremberg Trials as a part of the 793rd Military Police Battalion from 1945-1946. Pons also describes his return to Germany in 1951-1952 as a member of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, of the 4th Infantry Division. Pons provided security during the Nuremberg Trials over 10 separate occasions and spent most of his time completing various tasks such as breaking up riots, controlling traffic, and participating in raids.
