Carl Fessel collection

This collection consists of photographs, personal papers and personal memorabilia belonging to Carl Fessel, a member of the United States Army Air Force who served in the 570th Squadron of the 390th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force in Europe from February of 1944 to April of 1945. Papers include a certificate of honorable discharge issued by the U.S. Army, while photographs include a picture of Fessel in uniform for a bombing mission and a contemporary map of Europe highlighting the prison camp at which Fessel was held as a prisoner of war. Personal memorabilia include membership cards titled "Life Membership: American Ex-Prisoners of War."

This collection relates to Private First Class Edward Carrow who served with the 665th Engineer Topographical Company, 4th Regiment, in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.  The collection contains numerous letters dating from July 1943 to October 1945. The collection also contains a scrapbook containing telegrams, playbills, several photographs, two maps of Europe and the Pacific, and several currency notes from France, Germany, and Austria.

Frances Huppert Nunnally Articles

The collection includes newspaper clippings of articles written by Nunnally. Articles include topics related to her departure from Vienna (and return after the war) as well as her family’s experience during Kristallnacht. She also wrote of her memory of D-Day and V-E Day. This collection contains a transcript of an oral history interview with Lyle Salisbury who served with the 537th Engineer Light Pontoon Company during World War II in the European Theater from 1944 to January 1946.

He describes seeing the small Regen and Cham concentration camps. He also discusses the camaraderie with German civilians after the war was better than it was with the French.

Abstract

The William H. Wallace Collection was donated to Florida State University by Robin Wallace Turco in May 2015.  The centerpiece of the Wallace Collection is a series of forty-six letters and postcards from Josette Asphiotis, a French penpal, to American airman William Wallace from 1944 to 1946.
