Blunk served as Sergeant Major for the 5th Air Depot Group, 39th Station Composite Squadron, Administrative Division, 35th Depot Repair, in the 8th Air Force Command Station in England from 1943-1945. This collection contains photographs, a newspaper clipping, and documents relating to his personal life and military career.

Content Description The collection includes 236 letters with some postcards and V-mails that "Cliff" wrote to his mother, Gladys Shirley, letters written to Gladys Shirley from some relatives of a soldier-friend of Cliff's who'd died in an accident, letters to Cliff from a woman he'd befriended in South Wales, and from his deceased friend's mother, to whom he'd written a note of condolence. Douglas Leach served as a U.S. Navy officer during World War II on the U.S.S Elden in the Pacific Theater. His letters of correspondence to family and friends are about his daily life, on the ship and off. His family's letters hold information on how rationing and censorship affected the American family unit during WWII. There are photographs included of Leach's niece and sister.

Content Description

This collection includes the correspondence between Albert and Laura Fuhrman with gaps from 1939 through 1947. Albert graduated the U.S. Naval Academy in 1937 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on submarines. The collection is especially rich in documenting the American home front during World War II, courtship practices, consumerism, personal finances, public education in southern California, child-rearing, and naval culture in the submarine service. Much of the correspondence in the collection centers of Laura's life in southern California and Albert's deployment in both Atlantic and Pacific with submarine service of the U.S. Navy.
