Calcutta (India)

This collection relates to Hazel Louis Bowman who worked for the Signal Corps and lived in India with the American Red Cross for two years. Bowman's collection contains six full boxes, one oversize box, a phono records box, and two photograph boxes. Four of the boxes include letters written to and from Hazel to her parents, family, neighbors, and friends. The collection also contains an oral history transcript, newsletters and bulletins, American Red Cross publications, her diary, a book written by Bowman, photograph albums, and ephemera.

First Sergeant Charles H. Martin Served with the 3848th Quartermaster Truck Company in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater for 16 months as a clerk. The collection includes Martin's three honorable discharge certificates, Enlisted Reserve Corps Qualification and Availability Questionnaire, and Separation Qualification Record. Also within this collection is Martin's personal copy of photograph album "A Yank's Memories of Calcutta" by Clyde Waddell. This album includes captioned photographs of important buildings, streets, and religious culture of the citizens of Calcutta, India.

This collection relates to Leonard P. Schmitt who served in the Army Air Corps in North African and China-Burma-India (CBI) Theaters with the 436th Squadron, 7th Bomb Group during World War II. This collection contains a veterans questionnaire and bound manuscript titled "Life and Times of Leonard P. Schmitt Sr." which recounts his experiences during the war.
